2019 Summer CSA Registration Closed

Info Below

Welcome to the Paradise Valley Produce CSA program

Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) provides a unique and valuable relationship between the consumer and the farmer. Purchasing a CSA seasonal subscription at the beginning of farmings season, consumers support their farmers by helping cover the costs of growing. In return, the farmer provides a share of the harvest each week — a diverse selection of the freshest, organic produce available.

Both the consumer and the farmer share the risk of the growing season. The size of each week's share is determined by seasonal changes and in part by the growing conditions of the season.

What if I am away for my Produce Share Pick Up?

If you are away on holiday, work or for other circumstances there will be few options available.

  1. Firstly, you can arrange for your bin to be picked up by someone else on your behalf

  2. We offer 2 weeks of credit where your bin can be on hold. More details follow under: General Info & FAQ, How do Shares work with time away?

    OR

  3. We will donate your share that week to the Community Resource Centre

Refunds or Cancellation

Refunds are not available. Due to the nature of agriculture your funds have been put to use in crop production (we can’t return our seeds!)

As Farmers we will work our butts off to provide exceptional produce of the highest quality, but there is always uncertainty in farming.

If due to uncertain circumstances outside of our control and we have wide spread crop failure we will refund CSA members for the weeks we can not provide.

CSA General Info & FAQs

What is our CSA about?

Community Shared Agriculture provides a unique and valuable relationship between the consumer and the farmer. By purchasing a CSA seasonal subscription at the beginning of farmings season, consumers support their farmers by helping cover the costs of growing. In return, the farmer provides a share of the harvest each week — a diverse selection of the freshest, organic produce available.

Both the consumer and the farmer share the risk of the growing season. The size of each week's share is determined by seasonal changes and in part by the growing conditions of the season.

The Community Shared Agriculture business model is set up for payment early in the season to support farmers manage the upfront costs for growing the season's produce.

You can opt to either pay in full upon registration or in two instalments (half of the total at registration and the second half on or before May 14).

do i pay upfront or weekly?

How much food do I receive each week?

The intent of the produce share is to provide adequate produce for a household for 1 week. Depending on eating habits a share could provide for a household of 1 to 4 people. We also don’t want to provide too much produce that leads to excessive waste (or compost).

What if a share is too much produce for me?

No problem! Share with a friend or neighbour. This could mean alternating weeks or splitting each share with your buddy. We ask that a “point person” for each share manages these details - thanks for understanding that we are busy farming and will not be able to manage this for you.

how do shares work with time away from Powell river?

We recognize our share holders schedules are full with planned trips, work trips and unexpected events that impact schedules and places your needs elsewhere. We can provide a 2 share credit to your account per season.

What our farm needs is up to 1 week notice that you will be away and we will credit your account for that missed share. We will provide this up to 2 shares. The credit can be used for extra produce purchases at our farm or be put towards your next year CSA registration.

What Produce Can I expect to receive weekly?

Each week produce will change depending on crop availability and seasonal changes. We specifically plan our growing season for a diversified harvest. We promise not to give you zucchini every week of the summer!

Are refunds available?

What if crops fail?

Refunds are not available. Due to the nature of agriculture your funds have been put to use in crop production (we can’t return our seeds!)

As Farmers we will work our butts off to provide exceptional produce of the highest quality and there is always uncertainty in farming.

If due to uncertain circumstances outside of our control and we have wide spread crop failure we will refund CSA members for the weeks we can not provide.
